History Of Karabakh also known as Artsakh In connection with the 23rd anniversary of the Karabakh national-liberation movement, Permanent Representative of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic to the Unites States of America Robert Avetisyan delivered lectures at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution of George Mason University (Washington) and New York University. In his speeches, Robert Avetisyan touched upon the prehistory of the Azerbaijani-Karabakhi conflict, legal and humanitarian aspects of the NKR formation, the war unleashed by Azerbaijan, the negotiation process, as well as the current situation in the NKR and in the region in general. “Since proclaiming independence in 1991, the NKR continues building a stable, open and democratic society; a state, which can protect its population and provide them with the universal rights and freedoms. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan keeps on increasing its military rhetoric, constantly stating of its plans to solve the problem by force,” Robert Avetisyan noted. The NKR Representative confirmed his country’s adherence to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict and noted that recognition of the NKR independence neither violates territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, nor threatens its existence. “Karabakh and Azerbaijan can be good neighbors, but their coexistence in a common political-administrative entity is impossible”, Robert Avetisyan said, noting that the NKR is open for a constructive dialog with Azerbaijan and expressing

Rebuffs Azeri Protests, Defends Self-Determination, and Upholds Kosovo Precedent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) President Bako Sahakian said Friday the Kosovo precedent was important for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and rebuffed Azeri attempts to poison his appearance at a gathering hosted by Orange County World Affairs Council at the Pacific Club, where Sahakian was the keynote speaker. Sahakian spoke to an audience of about 250 guests, mainly members of the Armenian community and the WAC, but peppered with members of the Azeri community, who asked biased questions during the Q & A session at the end of president’s speech. Another group of 15 to 20 Azeris was protesting outside of the venue. In his opening remarks, President Sahakian talked about some of the domestic and foreign policy objectives of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and the progress that has been made in those areas over the past few years.
