20 Refugee Families Receive New Apartments in Kasakh Collective Center_by Armenia TV

On November 3, 2011 US Ambassador John Heffern distributed keys to new residents of the Collective Housing Center for former refugees in Kasakh. The center was built within the frameworks of the Refugee Livelihood and Social Support Program implemented by Save the Children with funding from the US Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. The newly constructed building has 22 apartments, including six one-room, 14 two-room and two three-room, each providing individual heating, running hot/cold water, and basic kitchen fixtures. 20 families who resided in the collective center on Artsakh Street in Yerevan and in former prison cells in Kasakh — all of them refugees or former refugees awaiting permanent housing — were selected for relocation to the center. As per agreement with the local government, the remaining two apartments will be provided to extremely vulnerable local families of Kasakh village. Given that the apartments will be provided as temporary shelter to improve extremely poor living conditions of refugee families, Save the Children reached agreement with the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration that the relocated refugee and former refugee families will remain in the Government’s list of beneficiaries entitled for receiving permanent housing in the future, known as Government decree 747-N on priority program of providing refugees from Azerbaijan with apartments.

A wedding with participation of 700 couples took place in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic. Ceremonies took place in St. Ghazanchetsots church in Shushi and Gandzasar monastery. An unprecedented wedding ceremony, which married 700 new couples, took place in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on October 16, 2008. The ceremonies took place in St. Ghazanchetsots church of Shoushi and ancient Gandzasar monastery of Martakert. The Karabakh wedding, followed by a solemn dinner and issuance of wedding certificates and wedding gifts in Stepanakerts republican stadium, was implemented with the initiative of Armenian Russian businessman of Karabakh descent – Levon Ayrapetyan, who was also the main sponsor of the event. The couples were presented golden banking cards with $2500 worth of AMD on the balance for each new family to spend. The beneficiaries have also thought about future children: following the birth of the first child the family will receive $2000, the second child – $3000, third child – $5000, fourth – $10000, fifth – $20000, sixth – $50000, seventh – $100000. Thats plenty of reasons for 700 children to be born in Artsakh next year – 2000 reasons starting from the first child
